Emeritus Professor Ian Fletcher QC (hc)
Professor Ian Fletcher was an eminent scholar, internationally recognised for his outstanding achievements in the field of insolvency law.
​
Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Fletcher made significant contributions to the formation and redesign of insolvency systems around the world. He was an Emeritus Professor of International Commercial Law at University College London and a Bencher at Lincoln's Inn. In 2013, Professor Fletcher was appointed Queen's Counsel (Honoris Causa).

Professor Fletcher was a member of both INSOL International and the International Insolvency Institute. From 1994 to 2015, Professor Fletcher served as the founding Chairman of INSOL International's Academics' Group, and editor of the International Insolvency Review. In 2013, he was the first academic to be awarded the INSOL Scroll of Honour.

From 2005 to 2012, Professor Fletcher served as co-reporter for the American Law Institute and the International Insolvency Institute's joint report on Principles of Co-operation in Transnational Insolvency Cases. Professor Fletcher also served as a member of the World Bank's task force to develop principles and guidelines for effective insolvency systems.
​
Professor Ian Fletcher passed away on 21 July 2018. In addition to his strong contribution to international insolvency law, this thoughtful Professor will be remembered for his honesty, integrity and independent thinking.
2026 Fletcher Moot
The 2026 Moot marks ten years since the inception of the Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot.

To celebrate ten years, this year we started to bring the moot back in-person. Preliminary oral rounds were held in early February, with the semi-finals and Grand Final being held in London on Friday 17 April 2026.
The presiding Judges were Lord Justice Richard Snowden, Court of Appeal of England and Wales; Justice Brigitte Markovic, Federal Court of Australia, and Justice Elsbeth de Vos, District Court of Amsterdam, Netherlands.
